Throughout the course of this program, you will help a mentee with their personal and professional development. Prior to beginning a mentoring partnership, mentors should evaluate whether they are willing and able to help in this way. Being a mentor requires a certain level of openness to new ways of thinking, commitment to your mentee, and patience as your mentoring partner is learning new skills. The following questions will help you consider whether being a mentor is right for you.
1. Are you willing to meet consistently with your mentee to maximize this learning experience?
2. Are you willing to listen and support your mentee rather than quickly dispensing advice?
3. Do you enjoy empowering others towards greater achievement?
4. Are you dedicated to helping your mentee achieve their goals throughout the mentoring partnership?
5. Are you committed to taking the time and energy required to help your mentee learn?
6. Are you open to receiving feedback on your coaching style?
7. Are you able to offer feedback in a non-judgmental way?
8. Are you willing to try to understand the challenges that your mentee faces?
9. Are you able to keep the conversations with your mentee confidential?
10. Are you willing to share your career experiences, strengths and weaknesses with a mentee?
11. Is your contract type of sufficient duration to allow for full participation in the mentoring partnership (at least 6 months from start of programme)?
12. Please note those on CCTs contract types cannot take part in this programme.
